Received a treasure trove of archival photos from one side of my family history this week. There are a few crazy cool pics I wanted to share.
My great grandmother helping unstuck a car in the Nevada desert.
Her sister not shooting any photographers
Taking the fun way to the lake.
Where I-80 would eventually go. My grandfather was the principle geological engineer on this stretch.
Bear Lake Utah.
My great great grandfather and grandmother.
My great grandmother and sister. Homemade slide FTW.
Some Yellowstone action
Im honestly surprised there isn’t one of them riding the bison or something.
My great great grandfather with the gun he invented.

Wow what a treasure trove of family photos.
That was back when they fed the bears in Yellowstone park. Better for the photographer .

I have 250 gb to go through, granted a lot of them are stupid large Tiff files, so once I get them down to size it will still be like 20 gb of family photos. A bonus that they liked taking pictures I guess.

Don’t worry; it’s not loaded. Fabulous photos; made my day, seriously. At the first glance, I wondered if that was Baroness von Blixen...
Drop me that line when it’s convenient.

These are awesome. That rifle looks like an early Browning prototype. I’m guessing your great grandaddy was one of the Browning Bros. I’ve only ever seen photos of them a little later along in life. Very cool family history.

Awesome. Being able to track and remember family history is truly a wonderful thing. I have some friends whose families were pioneers with Brigham Young, and going through their family history and chronicles wa s awesome.

it gets a little tricky with pioneer heritage because of the polygamy thing, both my family lines had multiple wives going on.
both sides have polygamy in my family lines. Looking back at their writings is especially revealing of what it was then vs what it is now. People were all for it then as it served a legit need and people weren’t just pervin out on it.

Yeah, the polygamist history was always used to demonize LDS among other Christian denominations, but its been practiced throughout the history of Judeo-Christian religions. If a guy can handle more than one wife, and the wives are ok with with, I say have at it. Obviously that’s not what was happening in Colorado City, and I know it’s not allowed now within the LDS church . I have half brothers and sisters from various step-parents, which kind of creates a similarly unconventional family tree.
